The Best YouTube Options for Christian Families (2026)
We make WatchSafe. Every other option was checked on its own website on November 2, 2026, and we've tried to be fair about where each one shines. WatchSafe is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube, Google, or any channel named here.
Short answer: The most faith-friendly way to let kids use YouTube is to approve the channels and videos yourself, so only what you've chosen can play: worship songs, Bible stories, good science and the creators your family trusts. You can do this for free with YouTube Kids' "Approve content yourself" setting, or with an approval-first app like WatchSafe. If you'd rather skip YouTube entirely, a Christian streaming service like Yippee TV is another good path.
"Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely… think about such things." (Philippians 4:8). For most of us, the goal isn't to fear screens. It's to fill them with what's good.
Three ways families do this
- Approve-only YouTube apps. You pick channels, playlists or videos, and nothing else plays. Your kids keep the creators you love, without the algorithm.
- YouTube's own settings. These are free and helpful, but most are filters rather than an approved list.
- Christian streaming services. A separate faith-based library, not YouTube.

1. WatchSafe: best for families who want to choose every video
WatchSafe is approval-first. You approve channels, playlists or individual videos, and nothing else plays. There's no Shorts feed and no recommendations, and autoplay is off by default (when you turn it on, it only plays what you've approved). You can set time limits and schedules, like no videos during school hours or after bedtime, and pause everything with one tap. (Features)
For Christian families, it's a simple way to build a home "library" of faith and family content. You start from hundreds of pre-curated channels and add the creators your church or homeschool group recommends. Nothing plays until you approve it. (Christian families guide)
Pros
- Single-video approval, so you can allow one great sermon clip without the whole channel
- No Shorts feed and no recommendation rabbit holes
- One family price on Control+, which covers 5+ children
- Learning goals and badges on Control+ for homeschool families
Cons
- Paid after the 14-day trial
- YouTube ads still appear unless you connect YouTube Premium (Control+)
- No offline viewing
2. YouTube Kids with "Approve content yourself": best free option
Turn on "Approve content yourself" and your child can watch only what you handpick, with search off (Google help). Add your favorite Bible-story and worship channels and you have a free, simple setup.
Cons: limited to what's available in YouTube Kids, and many older kids outgrow it.
3. WhitelistVideo: an extra faith filter, if your kids use laptops
WhitelistVideo approves channels on official YouTube across computers, phones and Android TV. Its Premium plan ($14.99/mo per child) lists a "Religion & Faith" filter among its AI screening options (pricing).
Pros: wide device support. Cons: pricing is per child, so a family of four or five pays several times over.
4. Safe Vision: generous free tier
Approve channels, playlists or videos. The free version allows 5 channels and unlimited single videos (pricing). There are no faith-specific features, but it's a solid budget pick.
5. Kivvie: simple channel list
The free plan covers 1 child and 5 channels; paid is $8.99/mo or $89/yr (pricing). It's good if you only need a short list of trusted channels.
6. Yippee TV: a Christian streaming service instead of YouTube
Yippee TV calls itself "a wholesome alternative to YouTube", with VeggieTales, Superbook and faith-filled shows, plus hand-picked YouTubers screened by parents. It says there are no ads and no algorithms, and offers a 7-day free trial (yippee.tv).
Pros: a fully faith-based library. Cons: it isn't YouTube, so your kids' other favorite channels (science, crafts, homeschool lessons) won't be there.
Faith-friendly channels families often approve
Saddleback Kids, Superbook and VeggieTales are popular starting points. Check each channel yourself before approving it, and look again from time to time, because channels post new videos. (These channels aren't partners of WatchSafe.)
Our take
There's no shame in using free tools, and YouTube Kids' approve-only mode is a real gift to busy parents. If you want single-video control, time limits and no Shorts feed across web, iPhone and Android in one place, try WatchSafe free for 14 days. Whatever you choose, the best filter is still a parent nearby. Watch together, talk about what you saw, and keep the conversation going.
Questions from Christian families
What is the best YouTube setup for Christian kids?
An approve-only setup, where only channels and videos you've chosen can play. Use YouTube Kids' "Approve content yourself" for free, or an approval-first app like WatchSafe for single-video approvals, time limits and no Shorts feed.
Can I make YouTube show only Christian videos?
Not in the regular YouTube app, which recommends from its whole catalog. With an approve-only app or YouTube Kids' approved-content mode, only the faith channels and videos you choose will play.
Is there a Christian alternative to YouTube for kids?
Yes. Christian streaming services like Yippee TV offer their own faith-based libraries. They aren't YouTube, so you won't find every channel your kids enjoy.
Does WatchSafe block YouTube Shorts?
WatchSafe has no Shorts feed. Kids can only open channels, playlists or videos you've approved.
Is WatchSafe a Christian company?
WatchSafe is built by Crucible Lab LLC, which builds tools that serve people and help with human flourishing. We made it with faith-driven families in mind, and it works for any family that wants to choose what their kids watch. It isn't affiliated with any church, ministry or channel.
